Welcome Mr. Henely, Riverbend's New Principal!
Dear Riverbend Families and Community,
As many of you know, I have been searching for Riverbend’s next principal. Yesterday our hiring committee which consisted of two parents, two staff, one student, two school leaders, and a community leader interviewed our finalists and unanimously voted through multiple measure to offer one of our finalists the position.
After an extensive review and nation-wide search, we are happy that Mr. Henley has accepted the principal position and will begin in the first week of May. I will share the role of principal during the month of May while Mr. Henley gains a better understanding of the needs at Riverbend. After his induction period I will continue to support him and you as school superintendent. The committee is confident that his leadership will support the mission and vision of Riverbend.
Mr. Henley is a native of a Chicago community very similar to that of Laveen. Mr. Henley has a passion for education and was the first in his family to graduate high school and attend college. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish Education (K-12th), Master of Arts Degree in Latin American Literature and Culture / Bilingual Education (K-12th), a dual teaching credential issued by the Illinois State Board of Education and is currently a Doctoral student at Grand Canyon University studying Educational Leadership and Administration.
Prior to becoming the Principal at Riverbend, he has taught in the Chicago Public Schools for several years. Additionally, he has acted as a grade level lead, content specialist, bilingual coordinator, assistant principal and bilingual specialist. He has also served on the Bilingual Advisory Council and School Improvement Board. In conjunction with his teaching experience, he acted as principal of a charter elementary school, in which he was able to support raising student achievement in math and literacy by nearly 33%.
We believe that under Mr. Henley’s leadership, teachers, students, and families will have support in closing the achievement gap, maintaining high expectations, developing accountability measures, increasing test scores, increasing attendance and creating a community feel that encourages parent involvement. Mr. Henley has demonstrated that he is committed to excellence in providing each of you and your children with the support they need to reach academic excellence.
Within the first week of his start I will be hosting an event where Mr. Henley will be formally introduced to the Riverbend community and it is my hope that you will join me in welcoming him and begin to develop a strong working relationship in order to ensure a successful 2018-19 school year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Your partner in Education,
Mr. Hattrick, Superintendent
